Fact Friday

Top Ten searched for Celebs

Have you ever ‘Googled’ yourself?

Yes we thought so… we all have. Have you ever Googled your favourite actor/actress like Robert Pattison? (Edward out of Twilight, like you didn’t know!)

Here at QuadroNation we were feeling rather helpful (once again) so we took the liberty of listing the top ten searched for celebs on the net. N.B. It had nothing to do with the lovely selection of male actors in the list of course!

1. The beautiful (if I don’t say so myself) Robert Pattison. The palest idol known, Robert has gone from a virtually unknown actor to one of the biggest (and adored might I add) actors on the planet. It is unsurprising that he comes in at number 1.

2.  Another major Twilight star Taylor Lautner (Jacob) is in at number 2, even with the ever growing conflict of the Twilight rivals he is clearly still extremely popular. Do I blame people? Absolutely not… he is just as much a heartthrob as Robert!

3. Daniel Radcliffe. The infamous Harry Potter is in a well deserved spot, number 3. It all started back in 1997 when the first novel The Philosophers Stone was released then the movie in 2001. He was just the young age of twelve when the first movie was made now nine years later he turns quite a few heads!

4. Most people have seen the film Basic Instinct and that’s were Mr Douglas steps in (Michael Douglas of course). Also famous for marrying the wonderful Catherine Zeta Jones, he has made some great movies and his place at number 4 proves age isn’t everything.

5. Also known as a teen idol, Corey Haim is next on our list. Although he unfortunately passed away earlier this year his legacy is still clearly going strong with an impressive spot at number 5.

6. The one and only Russell Brand is sixth. Married to the lovely Katy Perry he has had nothing but success this year. He has starred in some great well known films such as Get him to the Greek and Despicable me.

7. The Lord of the Rings was a major success worldwide so it is no surprise that the handsome Orlando Bloom is seventh. Having also starred in The Pirates of the Caribbean, Orlando is extremely popular with the ladies but unfortunately has already been snatched up by model Miranda Kerr. (sob, sob)

8. Has recently starred in the smash hit animated movie Megamind and is one of the most envied men on the planet, you guessed it Brad Pitt is eighth. He has made countless great movies and is currently dating the woman once voted sexiest woman alive. (Never mind boys)

9. Now here is someone with a massive fan base and I can understand why. Johnny Depp is ninth and has played some weird and wonderful characters through his career such as Captain Jack sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland and of course Mr Scissor Hands himself.

10. Last but certainly not least is Leonardo Di Caprio. Famous for the amazing film Titanic, his most recent film was the very popular Inception which is believed to be action packed and very exciting. At the age of 36, I have to say he is still looking good…

The Gadget Timeline…

Gadgets have been around forever, even over ten years ago there were exciting new Toys to play with.

In our Fact Friday this week we are doing a Doc Brown and going back in time to see the gadgets that have moulded our society of today.

Playstation 1 – 1995

It was released September 29 1995 and was a massive hit, with games like Crash Bandicoot and street Fighter.

Digital Cameras – 1995

Everyone owns a digital camera of some sort and it all started back in 1995. It is said that

Eastman Kodak invented the first ever digital camera and the technology has just grown from there.

Windows 95

Design and planning started for this three years previous to the actual release date. It was said that Windows 95 was released with the single “Start Me Up” (Rolling Stones) on it and Microsoft paid them between $8-$14 million dollars for the privilege.

DVD 1996

DVD was a massive change from VHS and it took a while for people to adapt to the huge improvements, like being able to watch a film again without having to rewind it! Toshiba and JVC are the two known companies who made the first generation of DVD players and are as popular today as they were back then.

Flat screen 1998

Even though these are now the most popular, must have necessity in our living room they have been round quite a while. They were a lot more expensive back in 1998 thus not as popular as today.

Google 1998

The one and only Google.com, this is one of the (if not the most popular) site on the web. With about 320 million hits a day this has become the search engine of the century and I don’t think things are about to change any time soon.

Nokia 3210 1999

The infamous Nokia 3210 was extremely popular and was the beginning of a revolution when it came to mobile phones. It was one of the first mobiles to hide the big awkward antenna and have a choice of three games. Everyone loves a game of good old snake!

Apple iPod 2001

This was an amazing gadget which could hold up to 1,000 songs and was very small and compact in form. You could automatically download songs off iTunes onto this tiny 6.5 ounce design.

Sky+ 2001

Sky plus has been a revelation and when it first came out back in 2001 everyone was wowed at the fact that you can record programmes and watch them at any time you want. For us busy folk this was perfect!

Facebook 2004

Social Networking site of the past six years, Facebook is forever growing in users and popularity. Even with the competitor Twitter, Facebook is still going strong.

Apple iPhone 2007

2007 brought the unveiling of the iPhone, it was known as a widescreen iPod but turned out to be much more. It came with wifi, camera, visual voicemail, email and web browsing. It was extremely popular and sought after and still is today.

Apple iPad – 2010

This year came the sensation that is the  Apple iPad. Basically like a hand held computer, this gadget has sold over two million and the number is only increasing.

So there is a look back at technology over the past 15 years. I personally used to be a fan of the Playstation 1 – couldn’t beat a bit of Crash Bandicoot on a Saturday night!

2. Fail Blog

This is a great site that will definitely raise a few laughs. It is basically a site were people upload their amusing pictures for all too see. Fact Friday – The facts on computers

It is very rare to find someone without a PC or laptop of some kind in their home. They are undoubtedly the most popular must have piece of technology in the world. So what are the facts? Let the team of QuadroNation take you on a whistle stop tour of all things techi…

Where did it all start?

The Z1 originally created by Germany’s Konrad Zuse in his parents’ living room in 1936 to 1938 is considered to be the first electrical binary programmable computer.

In the 1970s Hewlett Packard introduced fully programmable computers that fit entirely on top of a desk, including a small one-line display, a keyboard and printer.

The first laptop is considered to be the Osborne I, a portable computer developed by Adam Osborne that weighed 24 pounds, 64 KB of memory, a 5-inch display, two 5 1/4″ floppy drives, and a modem.

The first Apple known as the Apple I was designed by Steve Wozniak in 1976.

Here is when the big names released their first computers:

Toshiba – In 1954 Toshiba introduces its first computer, the “TAC” digital computer.

NEC – In 1958 NEC builds its first computer the “NEAC 1101.”

Hewlett Packard – In 1966 Hewlett Packard released its first general computer, the “HP-2115.”

Compaq – March 1983 Compaq released its first computer and the first 100% IBM compatible computer the “Compaq Portable.”

Dell – In 1985 Dell introduced its first computer, the “Turbo PC.”

Computers have clearly grown immensely since the first one back in the 1930’s and to some people living without one is simply not an option. Businesses are obviously in no rush to stop developing and improving and we don’t intend to try and stop them.

How many adults access the internet daily?

internet

These days we look back and think, ‘what did we do before the internet?’. For a few years the internet was something for us young people to spend hours on, but as time has gone on the internet has become key in all jobs and even home life. The older generation have jumped on the bandwagon and here are the key facts and figures on how they have took over the internet.

  • In 2006, 30.1 million adults in the UK (60 per cent) accessed the internet almost every day. This is nearly double the estimate in 2006 of 16.5 million.
  • The number of adults that have never accessed the internet decreased to 9.2 million from 10.2 million 2009.
  • Within the last 12 months, 31 million people have ordered goods off the internet. These internet shoppers represented 62 per cent of all adults. Sporting goods and clothes were the most popular buy, with 52 per cent of internet shoppers purchasing these products.
  • 6.4 million people listened to the radio or watched television over the internet in 2006 and in 2010 17.4 million are tuning in.
  • 73 per cent of households (19.2 million) in 2010 had an internet connection. The region with the highest level of access was London, with 83 per cent; the lowest was the North East, with 59 per cent.

We can expect these figures to grow year after year as the world continues to rely heavily on online activities. One of the main reasons the older generation has been persuaded to join the online community is Facebook. Yeah…I’m bored of hearing that name too.
